Description:
Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna will be organising yet another quality event for history and heritage buffs – a World War One Cottonera Tour focusing on the role of Malta in that conflict.
This event is being held on Thursday 31st March (Public Holiday) between 10.00 and 13.30hrs. The choice of Cottonera is deliberate given its important role as a Military Hospital and a Prisoner of War Camp besides a transit base to the Dardanelles.
The tour will consist of an introductory illustrated lecture on the subject, two guided tours of Notre Dame Gate and the Cottonera Military Hospital and a very special World War One themed coffee break during which participants will have the opportunity (probably for the first time ever) to savour some WW1 delicacies such as Gun Powder Tea, Anzac Biscuits, Bully Sandwiches and Trench Cake.
Participation is by prior booking only by email or telephone 21800992/info@wirtartna.org.
Admission fee: €15 per adult & €7 per child (10 – 16yrs).
FWA Friends €10 Adults and €4 children (10 – 16yrs).
The tour will start from Notre Dame Gate, Vittoriosa.
Those attending this tour will also have the opportunity on this day to visit both Fort Rinella in Kalkara and the Malta at War Museum in Vittoriosa at a 50% discount.
